9 for ‘09 Challenge

25 Jun

9for9200x1164

Ok, so It’s half-way through the year, and I’m at a slight disadvantage but the 9 For ‘09 Challenge is a great way to get through some of the books on my shelves.   If you’ve been to my apartment you know what I mean, and if you haven’t.  Well picture a cozy little library (with a messy kitchen) and you’ve got a pretty good idea.

The point of the challenge is to whittle down our TBR (To Be Read) Lists by reading and reviewing 9 books in different categories during the course of the year. Since we still have until the end of December, I think I’m up for the challenge.

So, without further ado, here are my picks from my collection for each category. I’ll post updates as they are finished and reviewed.

  • Long – Mason & Dixon by Thomas Pynchon
  • Free – The House at Riverton by Kate Morton
  • Dusty – Schindler’s List by Thomas Keneally
  • Used – We Thought You Would Be Prettier by Laurie Notaro
  • Letter – Evermore by Alyson Noel (E, R, M)
  • Strange – Three Fates by Nora Roberts
  • Distance – The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova (5409 miles)
  • Alive or Not – My Century by Günter Grass
  • Cover – Idlewild by Nick Sagan
  • Review: The Road by Cormac McCarthy

    Writefly is Growing

    7 Jun

I’m humbled and amazed at the way the site is growing.  It’s only been up for 2 weeks and is only a shell of what I have planned for it.  But we are getting great traffic and a fun twitter community presence.  Plus we are available on Kindle!! Just me bragging a little.

Tonight we added a Writefly Facebook Group.  Check it out!  Now we have Discussion Forums.  This is me excited!

1224554439Yw40WvIn all seriousness…I’m loving this project.  I’m learning alot, meeting some really cool people in publishing and I get excited to get out of bed early in the morning and do the daily site updates.  Yup, that’s right I said early!

Read my review about a great set of tools for writer’s by author, editor and writing coach Jeff Gerke. A serious boon to anyone who struggles with one-sided, flat writing. Plotters learn how to build fabulous characters and character kings and queens learn all about making your plot out of this world.

    My rating: 4.5/5 stars
    Highly Recommended.

    Elizabeth Gilbert on Nurturing Creativity

    4 Jun

“The author of Eat, Pray, Love, Elizabeth Gilbert muses on the impossible things we expect from artists and geniuses — and shares the radical idea that, instead of the rare person “being” a genius, all of us “have” a genius. It’s a funny, personal and surprisingly moving talk.”

Watch it. Then watch it again!
